The last few years have changed people’s aesthetics completely. What people desire today in their forever home is far from what they wanted a few years back. Back in 2019, it was all about modular kitchens and spacious decks for people. As we moved ahead and 2020 came, things went a little towards personalisation. And here we are, three months down 2022, amazed by what people expect of their forever homes.
While personalisation remains the focal point of people, it’s more about the vibe they want to experience. And to catch that vibe for our customers is our biggest challenge.
So far, we’ve talked to a few of our customers, including the ones we are working with presently and the ones we’ve worked with before, and the surprising thing to know is that they don’t need a great kitchen or a bunker’s bed in their children’s room. What they told us took us off-guard, and it will stun you too!
Here’s what people want today in their forever home-
1. Outdoor experiences
Recent years have given us quite a glimpse of what a “living insides” life looks like. This has led to people wanting more of the outside; nature, the greenery, and the sun’s warmth are what they can’t seem to compromise on. Walls that do not limit living is what people aspire to today.
Even the best interior designers agree that they will have to work heavily on biophilic designs in 2022. After all, people missed nature and the feelings of living freely way too much in the last few years.
Not just that, with the swift shift in perspectives, people today are prioritizing personal well-being, mental health, productivity and personal development a lot today. Which seems to be a lot more connected with the environment and ambiences; thus, natural lighting, ventilation and breathability have become something of higher importance.
People prefer huge windows, extended balconies, light-coloured walls, and whatnot to make this a reality. Precisely, people just want to reconnect with nature for good this time!
2. Dedicated workspaces
Another thing that hurt most of us more than the closed doors and denied access to the outside world were our backs. All of us literally went from “a fixed 12-hour schedule” to “waking up to our screens”, which seemed quite cool until it started causing some honest and hard to reverse damage.
While some companies cared for their employees enough to provide a “home office-setup allowance”, some just had to work things out with a table and a chair. Which is good, but it doesn’t really set the mood to wake up every morning and start working, does it?
This year, dedicated workspaces will be on the top of people’s priority list. And when we say workplace, let’s just say it’s more than a place to sit with your laptop.
Customized and colourful backdrops are what people fancy today. Honestly, what is better than you flaunting that eclectic backdrop on a zoom call? You might as well turn the video on this time! (willingly)
While that is important, we can’t forget those “have it all” inspirational elements that just give it a more collected feel.
All in all, a dedicated workplace is a must!
3. Aspirational architecture
Earlier homes were just homes supporting lavish lifestyles through world-class amenities. Today for many people, the definition of luxury has evolved to something more of them and less of what others expect luxury to be, which is fair in our opinion.
Aspirational architecture is one that supports your lifestyle and reflects your most authentic self. The concept of buying an already built space just doesn’t excite people anymore.
Whether indoor living or outdoor, people want it their way, and aspirational designs do precisely that for the customer. By providing them exactly what they desire in the form of a luxury villas in goa that supports tprivate villas in goaheir beliefs, wants and lifestyle.
As professionals, we are all in favour of this as we think this was something that was long due!
4. Clean designs
The old “let it show” trick has bored people, and they don’t want it all showing; instead, a clean design is what people expect for a minimalist lifestyle. One great addition to this is the floor-to-ceiling cabinets.
Let’s be honest here; not everything in your home is worthy of being showcased. And even if it is, not everything will go with the vibe you want to maintain. In such situations, these cabinets work like magic. They give you such a together vibe; it all looks clean, chic and put together.
5. Texture and patterns
The minimalistic approach goes the best with curved silhouettes, eye-catching patterns, and exquisite textures. The blend of these three is exactly what brings out the best when it comes to interior today. People don’t want to paint their walls with vibrant colours; instead, they want a more reassuring feel that comes from earthy tones.
What makes the most spartan stand out is the blend of these three. The best interior decorators believe it’s the right time to take people towards a more subtle yet classic esthetic. People need to see the beauty in the whole vibe, and fortunately, they are moving in the right direction. We as professionals just have to accompany them!
The living room is the best place in a luxury home to execute the layered approach. It’s a place that calls for all the happy and homely vibes, after all. For us, the blend of these three will never age.
6. Breathing space
If the home is your ultimate escape, don’t you think this escape needs a little more? We do too!
Having a bedroom or a living space doesn’t do it for people today when it comes to personal freedom. People today have varied interests, some like writing, some like dancing and some just like a close room to themselves with noises locked outside.
Sure, a bedroom can do the same for you, but does customization really have any limits?
We got the answer when one of our clients approached us with her requirements of a meditation room for her, dedicated to and built with the core purpose of providing her with a calm space and reflecting in itself some composure.
People have started appreciating such concepts, and believe it or not; it is something that changes the whole vibe.
7. Soothing colours
As we said earlier, people are also moving towards subtle and calm vibes. And need not say, a lot of it comes from the hues of colours. That being said, it’s not that people frown upon colours, and many of our clients have fearlessly chosen vibrant colours and nailed them too.
But what we are trying to point out here is that 2022 is going to be about fineness and sophistication with a slight touch of glimmer with no explanations at all. So just get it this way, it’s a timeless aesthetic and stays for a long time.
8. Opulent foyers
We all see those huge double-door entrances that just take our breath away. It’s like you’ve entered a luxury hotel or something. Crazy, isn’t it? Apparently, people have started loving them way too much.
It’s true. Some people just want those foyers and double doors; it just gives them a more majestic vibe. Not just that, those doors do justice by the lavish and highly opulent lifestyle that you are envisioning for yourself.
Moreover, a properly put-together foyer is more of a welcoming experience for those who visit you at your place.
So if you’ve got a foyer that you haven’t really given enough attention to, make sure you do now. Put some candles with a few books on the side tables, put down a rug and add minor elements that will make it look cosier.
